Amy Grant's "Baby Baby": My All-Time Favorite 90s Tune

It’s Sunday here on ai love music! And it means only one thing; Song Lyrics Sunday! I want to talk about my all-time favorite 90s song: “Baby Baby” by Amy Grant in the final hours of my well-spent weekend of rest. It has been a while since I participated! I have been busy with a Christmas play, Gift of a Magi, that was put on last weekend. Now that is over, I spent this weekend sleeping as the past two weeks were jam-packed. And also listening to music!

Song Lyrics Sunday is hosted by Jim at A Unique Title For Me. This week’s prompt is “Baby”. If you want to participate (which anyone can!), you can find more information down below!

(I haven’t forgotten about Battle of the Songs post that is supposed to be posted today. I will post it tomorrow, sorry for the delay.)

Behind the Scene With Amy Grant

CT cover for Amy Grant's "Baby Baby"

Amy Grant wrote the lyrics to this early 90s hit. Keith Thomas composed the song. Thomas agreed to help Grant out if she would name the tune “Baby Baby”. With that stipulation, Grant had a hard time written lyrics for the song. Her early attempts at making a romantic tune with “Baby Baby” were disastrous! The singer-songwriter said the attempts sounded “some overgrown football jock with no vocabulary trying desperately to be romantic”.[1]

However, all hope was not lost! One day, when Grant saw her six-year-old daughter Millie, the singer-songwriter immediately said: “Oh baby baby”. This gave Grant an idea and she immediately wrote the lyrics. It only took 10 minutes to write it in her kitchen.

(BTW, MIllie was a guest when Amy Grant performed the song during the 34th Grammy Awards.)

Oh Baby Baby

“Baby Baby” is an infectious positive pop song! The energy from the instrumentation to the lyrics is so infectious and positive! This is why I love the song since I was a kid! Sure, the song is filled with pure early 90s synthesizers. But, the lyrics are pure and true. If you take a look at the lyrics below, haven’t you felt the same way with a loved one?

Take a listen to “Baby Baby” down below and let me know what you think down below. Also, be sure to listen to Heart in Motion, the album that “Baby Baby” is featured on. It is a wonderful album and a staple in my music collection. My favorite songs from the album are “Baby Baby”, “Every Heartbeat”, and “Galileo”. What are yours?

Lyrics to Amy Grant’s “Baby Baby”

Baby, baby
I’m taken with the notion
To love you with the sweetest of devotion
Baby, baby
My tender love will flow from
The bluest sky to the deepest ocean

Stop for a minute
Baby I’m so glad you’re mine, yeah
You’re mine

Baby, baby
The stars are shining for you
And just like me I’m sure that they adore you
Baby, baby
Go walking through the forest
The birds above are singing you a chorus

Stop for a minute
Baby, they’re so glad you’re mine, yeah
And ever since the day you put my heart in motion
Baby, I realize that there’s just no getting over you

Baby, baby
In any kind of weather
I’m here for you always and forever
Baby, baby
No muscle man could sever
My love for you is true and it will never

Stop for a minute
Baby, I’m so glad you’re mine, yeah
And ever since the day you put my heart in motion
Baby, I realize that there’s just no getting over you
