It’s April and we have less than 60 days till the annual Eurovision contest that will happen next month. Get excited! If you don’t know what Eurovision is, I wrote a detailed post about the contest a couple of years ago. I am back with my series “Road to Eurovision”, predicting who will win this year’s contest. Each day, I will feature a song from one of the countries. Then, I will make my own predictions of who will make it to the finals and win the competition. Good luck to those who are competing!

Let’s get started!
Circus Mircus’s “Lock Me In”
Circus Mircus‘s “Lock Me In” is representing Georgia in this year’s Eurovision. “Lock Me In” features a fun-loving rock melody that features some experiment sounds. There are even some catchy riffs, especially during the verses, that will have listeners singing along. The music video is also colorful and fun to watch as it featured clowns and circus performers.
But despite being a funky, fun-loving experimental rock tune by Circus Mircus, it doesn’t have that “oompf” that makes this song a Eurovision final song, The energy is subdued, the melody is catchy in the chorus but makes people think “what the heck” during the verse, and there isn’t a center point musically speaking that the audience can really follow. The song is kind all over, as it is an experimental rock tune. I really think this song is lovable for people like me who love experimental sounds, but I don’t think it will be a pleasure during the semi-finals and not make it to the finals.

(Note: I changed my prediction for Intelligent Music Project after a week of thinking about the song. I think they will be going to the finals as the song grew on me.)
