It’s Sunday and you know what that means! It’s #SongLyricsSunday! Last week, I choose “Hero” by Chad Kroeger and Josey Scott as the prompt called for a song by a Canadian. This week’s prompt is about sibling love with the words “Brother/Sibling/Sister”.
For my pick, I really had to search hard for the “perfect” song. I searched for a dozen or more songs on Spotify, trying to find it. After a long search, I choose “Sister Brother Mother Father” by Swedish Futurepop duo Niki & The Dove.
(This is part of a #SongLyricsSunday challenge, which is hosted by Jim at An Unique Title For Me. Anyone can join! Details on how to participate are found at the end of this post!)
Love Will Find a Way
Niki & The Dove is a duo that is all about futurepop, indietronica, indie pop, chillwave, funk, alternative dance, and synthpop. The duo consists Malin Dahlström (not be confused with the Swedish athlete that has the same name) and Gustaf Karlöf. Niki & The Dove seems to be still “active” as they never really announced disbandment, but their last album was in 2016 when they released Everybody’s Heart Is Broken Now. They are still active on social media though.
“Sister Brother Mother Father” is found as a bonus track off the Niki & The Dove’s second album Everybody’s Heart Is Broken Now. Written by the duo themselves, this tune is a very upbeat tune with elements of synthpop and funk. You can hear the funk in the chorus in the various parts: the backing of the vocals imitating the same style of a horn playing, heavily syncopated, aggressive rhythms with the emphasis on beat one, and the slick mood. Because of the funky beats and melodies, the tune is a really pleasant listen!
I really like “Sister Brother Mother Father” by Niki & The Dove as it is perfectly written with the danceable funky beats and the energetic vocals. It is really enjoyable to listen to as each part of the song (the beat, the instruments, the vocals) come together perfectly to create a perfect funk tune. “Sister Brother Mother Father” is the type of song that I could listen over and over, dancing to the beat endlessly.
