It’s Sunday! You know what that means: its #SongLyricsSunday! This week’s prompt is “Alone/Confined/Depressed/Isolated/Restless/Solo”. The prompt is supposed to reflect the current events were are enduring right now. But, I choose something different: a tune about enduring loneliness through lost love. This week’s tune is “ALONE” by Chisato Moritaka.
This is part of a #SongLyricsSunday challenge, which is hosted by Jim at An Unique Title For Me. Anyone can join! Details on how to participate are found at the end of this post!
A Different Kind of Loneliness
“ALONE” is Chisato Moritaka’s fifth single. The lead-off single from her 1988 album Mite (見て Look), the lyrics to this sad tune was written by Moritaka by herself. The singer-songwriter has been writing her own material for thirty-two years now, starting with the 1988 album Miihaa (ミーハー Imposter). Over her 33-year long career, some profile songs that Moritaka wrote are “Watashi ga Obasan ni Natte mo” Even If I Become an Old Lady and the iconic “Watarasebashi” Watarase Bridge.
Chisato Moritaka was a rare gem in the music industry in the late 80s as she wrote the lyrics to most of her songs, but also played many instruments. This singer-songwriter from southern Japan can play the piano, guitar, recorders, drums, and other instruments. She even had her own guitar called MB-68 Chisato Moritaka Signature Model electric guitar, which guitar designer Bill Lawrence released in 1995. She is amazing!
Getting back to the song, “ALONE” is about a longing from a female’s perspective of a love that has faded. Even though she and her lover have parted, the character in the song still loves that person. She remembers every little quirk and every little detail about her lover. It is such a sad and painful song about experience love that has been now lost. We all shared similar experiences that Moritaka wrote in the mid-tempo ballad.
What do you think of “ALONE” by Chisato Moritaka? Could you relate to the lyrics about a lingering love? Let me know in the comments below!
Translated Lyrics for Chisato Moritaka’s “ALONE”
Here are the lyrics translated into English, thanks to Diazepan Medina at Lyricstranslate.com:
The wind blew, today I parted from you
It’s the city of always but it’s seen with different colors
Tears start to fall, I can’t hide them
I don’t want to return anywhere, my breath stops
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
That whispering voice was lovely
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you even now
I can do anything, alone
I wonder if I can burn the film left in the camera
Oh god, please tell him to be nice to me
Your last words were “See you”
Though I was sweet, my breath stopped
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
I liked that cute behavior
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you even now
You left me alone
Last year’s winter we got close when it was snowing
Though we saw the first snow, now I’m cold, I want to meet you
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
That whispering voice was lovely
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you even now
I can do anything, alone
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
I liked that cute behavior
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you even now
You left me alone

Just because we say goodbye or we part ways with someone that we love, doesn’t mean that we love them less. Sometimes, it’s just necessary to do so.
