Road to Eurovision 2021: Gjon’s Tears (Switzerland)

It’s May and we have about three weeks to go to the annual Eurovision contest. It will happen next month. Get excited! Though the contest was canceled last year and faces strict protocols due to the current pandemic, we can still enjoy this international contest from anywhere in the world.

Each day, I will feature a song from one of the countries that are in this year’s Eurovision. Like 2019, I will make my own predictions of who will make it to the finals and maybe win the competition. Good luck to those who are competing!

Gjon’s Tears’ “Tout l’Univers” (All The Universe)

It was important for us to keep hope in this particularly difficult time: we must not give up and we must stay strong. With love, friendship, strength, and courage, we can rebuild our future. I am convinced that in this exceptional situation it is possible to rediscover and reinvent ourselves.

“Tout l’Univers” (All The Universe) by Gjon’s Tears is representing Switzerland in this year’s Eurovision competition. A melancholy ballad that is so beautiful! There is so much to love about this song. The instrumental is subtle yet gorgeous. And, the vocals are beautiful, especially the melodic lines during the verses. My favorite part is around the 2:20 mark with that beautiful downward spiral of notes. The vocals are full of so many rich emotions. It is engaging to listen to the song’s journey with Gjon’s Tears’ vocals.

A beautiful song with such gorgeous vocals and depth of such emotions, “Tout l’Univers” will definitely make it to the finals.

The Lyrics

Here is an English translation of the lyrics, thanks to LyricsTranslate.com:

Let the wind brush
Her hand over my shoulder
The void in my head
Not a single place to hide

The dawn is fading
Behind a field of ruins
The time to grow up
Don’t hold yourself back

I see pieces of you behind us
And I see what pain has made of me

The whole universe
Our two hearts under the ground
At the centre of the rifts where everything explodes
Being at the point of impact
Without you

What will happen to our breaths
If they stay on the shore?
This love that wrings us out

I see pieces of you behind us
And I see what pain has made of me

The whole universe
Our two hearts under the ground
At the centre of the rifts where everything explodes
Being at the point of impact
Without you
Behind my eyelids
Get some air

Ah
The whole universe
Our two hearts under the ground
At the centre of the rifts and the aftershocks
We meet at the point of impact
How can we heal our exploding hearts
The whole universe
