It’s #SongLyricsSunday! And the theme is to find a song that has the words “heaven” or “hell” in it. The song I picked is HIIH’s “feels like HEAVEN”. Many might not know the title or the artist, but once one hears it, some will remember it as it was used in a well-known 90s Japanese horror movie. What movie is it? Continue to read on to find out.
It Will Surely Come
“feels like “HEAVEN”” was released by the Japanese dance duo HIIH on January 21, 1998. Not much is known about HIIH as the duo only released this single. The song’s lyrics and music were written by Tomo Hirata or DJ Tomo. According to his profile, Hirata’s profession is primarily a DJ as he has released music and deejayed in various clubs around Europe and Japan. In the 90s, he released music on the legendary UK house label Hooj Tunes. The female vocals were sung by Rie Takahashi, who hasn’t released a lot of music over the years.

The single version is not really known to a lot of people, but the remix version is. The “X-Tra Soundscape Mix” of the song was featured in the movie Ringu (or The Ring) as the theme song. This 90s Japanese movie was really popular not only in Japan but also around the world with the US making their own version. And, the movie franchise is still going with new incarnations coming out sporadically.
If you haven’t watched Ringu, you should really watch it. But, you should also read the novel too, if you have a chance because I enjoyed that version more (And, there is an English translation available). The story revolves around a mysterious tape that if you watch it, you have only seven days to live and then you die unexpectedly. This curse was brought on by Sadako, a young woman who had incredible psychic powers. When she was killed, she was able to create the “ring virus” (which is a variant of the smallpox virus) and project it onto a VHS tape.
There are a lot of elements of the story that I don’t want to spoil in this post, but I really love the original novel as it gives Sadako’s character depth. I think Koji Suzuki, the author, created Sadako in such a way that is like Carrie from the Stephen King novel of the same name: both had a depth of humanity that the readers could feel deeply in the story.
But, don’t be fooled that Ringu is a horror movie/novel too. And, I always feel like the “X-Tra Soundscape Mix” of HIIH’s “feels like “HEAVEN”” really captures the mood of the movie so well: eerie, malevolent, and dark. I really love this remix since I first watched the movie so many years ago. It is a great remix and a must-listen for this Sunday!
Make sure to listen to HIIH’s “feels like “HEAVEN”” down below and let me know what you think in the comments!

The Lyrics for HIIH’s “feels like “HEAVEN””
Here is an English translation of the lyrics, thanks to LyricsTranslate.com:
Oh, she’s surely coming, surely coming, everything is white this season
Oh, the radiance you’ve been given is limitless
Oh, feels like heaven, feels like heaven; in the break in the clouds
Oh, feels like heaven, feels like heaven; you can see an angel
Wrapped in mist, the streets look silver
News are overflowing with stories of mankind’s weakness
Ignoring her unsatisfied feelings and unknown phone calls
Every day is mediocre and she’s roaming about, day by day
Someday, the heart that dreams of a different self will leave this meaningless body
With connections gone wild, she can lose control and bid farewell to these days; flap her wings and fly into the sky
Oh, she’s surely coming, surely coming, everything is miraculously white
Oh, the illusions you’ve been given are fading
Oh, feels like heaven, feels like heaven; in the break in the clouds
Oh, feels like heaven, feels like heaven; you can see an angel
Rainbow-colored balloons have finally reached the treasured place
Forgetting the lonely moments, it’s trippy time
No matter how much she thought and wished, some things just never worked out, but
There is a path to the desired place, so she believes in a new world
Oh, she’s surely coming, surely coming, everything is white this season
Oh, the radiance you’ve been given is limitless
Oh, feels like heaven, feels like heaven; in the break in the clouds
Oh, feels like heaven, feels like heaven; you can see an angel
Oh, she’s surely coming, surely coming, everything is white this season
Oh, the radiance you’ve been given is limitless
Oh, feels like heaven, feels like heaven; in the break in the clouds
Oh, feels like heaven, feels like heaven; you can see an angel
Feels like heaven

Very nice Amy.
Oh I haven’t really thought about 90s horror movies in a while. I am not a big horror fan!
Oh, I remember the movie The Ring. I watched the US version years ago and never again as I do not like horror movies! But you’re right, I do recognize the song because I had a friend tell me about the Japanese version.
Sorry, I never heard of this song. But, I got the message. The girl is finally coming to a place, she is destined to be.
Okay, so I listened to both tracks you provided and I have never heard of this song at all and I am a Gen X kid board in the 70s. I dont really remember much about the movie Ringu (or The Ring) cept the premise. I am sure I watched it but just dont remember it much. But I really have no idea who HiiH is nor have ever heard this soundtrack. Did it even make it on the US billboard outside of techno?
I love a good 90’s horror movie! Might have to add this to the list, not seen it before!
I didn’t know all this in the least but I think the 90s gave us super goodies in every field!
Funny I have another Feels Like Heaven song singing in my head lol. It’s an 80s song, interesting to see how there’s a Japanese song of the same name!
Beautiful lyrics to this 90’s song. I remember jamming to some of my favorites from my youth growing up. Brings back memories of summers cruising with family and friends.
I’ve actually never heard of this song but I have a love hate relationship with horror movies would be cool to watch a 90’s horror classic and compare
I’m far to scared to watch horror movies – no matter from which epoch 😀 Doesn’t hold me back from enjoying the sound tracks 😀
Frankly .. Horror movie is not my cup of tea. I liked the 1st song though.
I haven’t seen any of the 90’s horror movies or maybe it’s been a long time that I forgot but seem interesting and now I want to check one haha.
I love horror movies. I’m probably one of the few people who can even watch it on their own. When I was living alone, I would watch horror movies at night, and it was fine. HAHA.
I’ve seen both the RING in the Japanese and American versions and of course, I love the Japanese one. I do not remember this song though. Hehe. Should I do a rewatch?
You should! I rewatched it the other night after many years. This song is played at the very end, when Reiko drives the car to her dad’s house
I remember when I first watch The Ring, I was so young back then and really got scared because of Sadako!
I’m a sucker for horror movies and have watched The Ring in Japanese and American – still gives me creeps! Though, I don’t remember this song? Haaaaa! I think I need to rewatch the film to catch it!
I did not know who the artist was of the song from the ring. That movie freaked me out and the remix even more. I like the original… I was bopping along while listening to it. Love her voice.
I had never watched Ring, but these sound interesting!
I am not a horror fan but this movie and the song seem really interesting.
Well I’m not a movie or song lover.. but I enjoyed reading this article 👍❤️
