Tomorrow is a special day for me. It’s my birthday! I am going to be the big 3-0, which was scary for me when I was little. I thought my life would end at around 30. No joke. My grandmother had MS, which started when she was 40, and she was confined to a bed when I was little. She also died of complications due to MS in 2003. I love my grandma a lot, even though she began to forget about me, but I thought I would end up like her because of genetics. I had cataracts, I have the roots of my teeth shrinking gradually: what more could happen to me.
Also, a lot of people have told me the general things like “You have less energy” or “You wouldn’t be as robust as you were in your 20”. That can be true but I plan to be healthier and more robust when I am 40 than when I am 20. The secret to this is goals, determination, and just a lot of good choices (exercise, a good diet, and etc).
My Future
There is still a lot of things I want to accomplish in my 30s. However, I am going to live daily by this Japanese proverb: “Tomorrow’s winds will blow tomorrow” (明日は明日の風が吹く) or “Everyday is a new day”. But, I want to live life on my own accords and not according to others. And, I want to live life to the fullest. I recently told my friend that I wanted to be more robust and healthier when I become 40 than when I became 20. It sounds outrageous but I can do it. That isn’t the only goal I have as I have a lot more outrageous dreams/goals that I want to achieve during my 30s.
I’m Forever Your Girl
Since I am going to turn 30, I want to share the Number One song on the charts when I was born in 1989. It was Paula Abdul’s “Forever Your Girl”. To be honest, it isn’t my favorite off her debut album, which is “Cold Hearted”, and not one of my favorites of her discography, which would be “Blowin’ Kisses in the Wind”. But, what my mom in reference to this song makes it something cherished.
My mom and I are music trivia geeks. She would know a lot of an oldie and it’s backstory. One day many years ago, “Forever My Girl” came on the radio and turned to my mom who was driving the car and told her that the song was the number one song on the charts when I was born. And, her response was very sweet: “You are forever going to be my girl”.
