Nathan Fox’s “Devil & The Hourglass”: An Alluring, Fiery Tune Because of THIS!

Halloween Jack-O-Lanterns

šŸŽƒ Happy Halloween! šŸŽƒ

Ever since I started my blog in 2015, I have had a tradition of electing a song to be the Halloween Song of the Year. Previous songs were Bobby Brown’s “On Our Own”, AKB48’s “Halloween Night” and tommy february6’s “Lollipop Candy BAD girl”. This year’s Halloween Song is Nathan Fox’s “Devil & The Hourglass”.

BTW, if you haven’t found the perfect Halloween playlist for tonight’s Halloween party or trick-or-treating, you should check out my spooktacular Halloween playlist. It features a variety of songs from different genres, eras, and countries that will make your Halloween a groovy one!

Nathan Fox and “Devil & The Hourglass”

Nathan Fox

“Devil & The Hourglass” comes from Nathan Fox’s 2012 EP I’m All Done. On the first note, you can tell that “Devil & The Hourglass” is a bluesy rock sound from the tone of the bass. This tone is heavy in the lower range with the deeper notes held out a little longer to add a smokin’ flavor to the piece. The bass is accompanied by a guitar, percussion, and sometimes an organ throughout the tune. By the way, if you are looking for the guitar as the leading part, you should listen to it playing a soulful solo during the bridge.

The best part of the song is the vocals. There is a sort of an electronic distortion to them that gives a fiery, dark tone to it. This tone is influenced by the story featured in the lyrics, which I will talk about later on. However, this electronic distortion isn’t overbearing but adds a nice touch to the song to make it more bluesy. This distortion, along with Fox’s incredible vocal talents and his musical approach, is something to listen to in “Devil & The Hourglass”. The three elements add a unique flavor with verve and vigor.

The song mentions a “Devil”, a fiery, wicked character who seems to be a “lover” in some sort of way. This “Devil” saunter into the main character’s life who is later “con” by this mysterious “Devil” and finds out making a deal with the devil led him to get burned. The way how Nathan Fox describes the “Devil” with vivid words is amazing. You can just imagine the character herself by listening to the details found within the lyrics. The same holds true for the story of the song. Nathan Fox styles the story in such a way that it has a certain type of mystery and allure. This entices the listeners to want more.

What do you think about “Devil & The Hourglass”? Do you like it because of the fiery, wicked vocals? Or, do you like it because of the fervid story? Perhaps you like it because of the blues-rock sound?
