Today’s Daily Feature is “I Only Party (w my baby)” by Los Angeles-based psychedelic alt-rock band SLUGS. The tune’s theme is about saving your fun for those nearest and dearest to you. The band’s singer-songwriter and guitarist Marissa Longstreed was inspired to write the lyrics after seeing an interview with Avril Lavigne: “Lavigne had talked about her marriage rule with then-husband Chad Kroger that they only “party” with each other. I thought that was a funny form of devotion; bounding your debauchery exclusively to your partnership.”
“I Only Party (w my baby)” is a playful song that features a colorful mood and a really fun music video. The catchy hooks in the chorus will have the listeners sing “I only party with my baby” over and over. The instrumentation is also hazy and chilled as it features fuzzed-out guitars and animated percussions. The melodies give off a playful mood as they are light and fun. Yet, don’t miss out on the warm vocal harmonies at certain points as they are luscious.
With its lively lyrics, “I Only Party (w my baby)” is a fantastic psychedelic track that is filled with playful tones, distorted guitar riffs, and keen bass lines. The track is mostly hazy and chilled until the chorus where the energy is ramped up with rich vocals and high energy in the instrumentation. If you are looking for an ethereal alt-rock to kick back to, then SLUGS’ “I Only Party (w my baby)” is the right track for you!
