#SongLyricsSunday: “Moon & Sunrise” with Korean Pop Diva BoA

This a little late but I have been busy again this weekend I was in performing in a charity event for a local organization on Sunday. And Saturday, I just slept and cleaned as my sister is coming to Japan this Friday. But, I really wanted to do this Song Lyrics Sunday, hosted by Jim at A Unique Title For Me.

The theme is “Dawn/Noon/Dusk/Midnight/Nocturnal/Diurnal”. Here is my choice:

BoA has been one of my favorite Korean pop stars since I discovered Kpop in 2002. I remember that I bought her “No. 1” album in Koreantown nearby LA in 2002 as my first CD by an Asian artist. I knew the Korean diva before though as I watched her Japanese music videos on the internet.

This Korean popstar got her start in 2000, which she was about 12 or 13. She is a extremely talented singer as she has a great range and balanced tone. She is popular all around Asia, making her debut in Japan in 2002, and somewhat in the western world, as she had a failed English album released in 2009. even though her release pace has slowed down a bit in recent years, she release a Japanese and a Korean album last year.

Today’s pick is the Korean version of “Moon and Sunrise”, which is from the single “Rock With You” (Korean Version). The Japanese version of the song originally appeared on her third album Valenti. The Japanese lyrics were translated by Natsumi Watanabe, who wrote songs for many Japanese top artists like Namie Amuro, Wink, Junichi Inagaki, w-inds, Nami Tamaki, and etc. She even wrote the lyrics to one of my favorite songs: Takako Uehara’s “Glory ~Kimi ga Iru Kara~”.

“Moon and Sunrise” is a typical mid-tempo ballad that you would hear from the late 90s and early 2000s. But, because it is BoA, it is a worthwhile listen due to her unique vocals and great range.

Here is the song in Korean:

And here is in the song in Japanese:

Here are the lyrics based on the Korean version:

The blue sky is always warm but it also gives an understandable solitude
It seems as if its hiding loneliness, sadness, and even pain.

Even the passing people sometimes feel it. They live, embracing the pain.
They’ve probably engraved the memories into their hearts.
They live on acting like they can’t forget.

Inside a warmhearted love, even in this moment as the last day of our smiling happiness is passing…

The wind comes blowing. Even today the path becomes covered with fallen leaves.
Your voice only slowly gets farther and farther away.

The high sky, like your heart, only gets farther away.
My falling tears are protecting my heart.
I can’t forget that love of yours.

That white cloud, too, is changing little by little, like you at this moment.
Joy, warmth, and even this love will probably begin to change very slowly.

Even the movie we saw together, will silently be remembered in my heart.
You were the one that said nothing changed, but in the end you’re leaving me.

How many memories must I hold onto as I live..
But I know, that since I’ve met you I’ve been happy.

There’s a moon that shines on me and there’s a shining sun.
Like that, after time passes, I’ll probably be able to forget you.
Even if its a fake, for each other we must smile.
My falling tears fall your appearance.
So that I can laugh when we meet again…

The wind comes blowing. Even today the path becomes covered with fallen leaves.
Your voice only slowly gets farther and farther away.

There’s a moon that shines on me and there’s a shining sun.
Like that, after time passes, I’ll probably be able to forget you.
Even if its a fake, for each other we must smile.
My falling tears fall your appearance.
So that I can laugh when we meet again…

I’m not too familiar with Korean music, so I’m happy to learn something new.
BoA sounds like a nice musician to listen to and she has an impressively long career for such a young person.
