The Mid-Week Pickup for January 12, 2022

“Soda Pop” by Catherine Moan

Catherine Moan is the solo electronic pop project of Angel Jefferson from Philadelphia. Her unique combination of vintage synthesizer textures and modern pop songwriting creates a sound that nods to the past while existing in the present. Angel’s music pays tribute to the instrumentation of early Depeche Mode, vocal delivery of Strawberry Switchblade’s Rose McDowall, and more contemporary synth oriented artists such as Chromatics, CHVRCHES, and TR/ST.

“Sleepyhead” by Hunter Moreau

“The story of Sleepyhead started out in my bedroom, ironically. I was in my bed doing a lot of thinking, and probably a lot of overthinking. I fell into this repeated game I play with my mind, getting wrapped up in my own thoughts and worries, and emotions. As l lay there, I started to think about how everyone goes through these sorts of “fights’ ‘ or “games’ ‘ with their own minds, often repeating the same toxic ways of thinking over and over again because we’re so accustomed to it” — Hunter Moreau

“Daylong Dance” by Petr ŠIMANDL

Petr Šimandl is a folk musician and songwriter from Frankfurt/Main, Germany, with many years of stage experience as a live musician. He was born in Pilsen in the Czech Republic and has been living in Hesse, Germany, for eighteen years now. Šimandl has already made a name for himself in the region as a cover musician of good Irish folk music, both as a solo artist, accompanying himself on the guitar, or as the frontman of the group “SIMANDLBand”, which he co-founded in 2014.

“Roller Coaster Eyes” by Skye Rocket

“Take Owl City, Blink-182, hip-hop samples, anthemic 80s synth rock, and the hyper-alive spirit of anime and video games, and put ’em in a blender meant to stick in your brain for weeks” — Skye Rocket

“Doctor, My Eyes” by Khamari

“Doctor, My Eyes” finds Khamari in an introspective space as he documents the weight of feeling too much and losing self-awareness. The new song is produced by Khamari, Trackside, and Johan Lenox.

“Name” by Modern Nun

Modern Nun is a lesbian rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The band is fronted by Edie McKenna and accompanied by Lee Simmons on guitar and Haley Webster on drums. Over the past two years, Modern Nun has formed a loyal fanbase with its captivating lyrics and catchy instrumentals.

“Crestfallen” by Blue Nagoon

Blue Nagoon is a music producer, teacher, and fan from Alaska. He enjoys working in a variety of genres, mostly rock/pop/retrowave, but always with a focus on songwriting that comes from his roots as a singer-songwriter. Like many artists he got back into songwriting and production in a big way in 2020, starting with a monthly series of synthwave with vocal releases.

“Cobblerstone” by Alex Rohan

“This is the first song of the late 2021 Lancaster EP. This is a story of realizing I’m in rehab, the verses are conversations between me and my Wife. The “chorus’s “ are a combination of emotion-filled cries for the warmth of my home and the love I know is waiting for me when I finally get there.” — Alex Rohan

“Love Affair” by KERRY

KERRY is a self-made artist from Russia, with a soft and enveloping voice. She is looking for her own sound and style, so each new song is not like the previous one. She is mostly inspired by the music of Billie Eilish, Melanie Martinez, XYLO, Annika Rose, and Sub Urban.
