Wednesday is always a time to celebrate! It is hump day! Two more days until the weekend, time to celebrate! I am starting a new series where I present ten songs that will help you celebrate your Hump Day and make your week more awesome!

The Mid-Week Pickup for March 2, 2022

“Old Keys” by Lee Rogers

Canadian Indie Folk artist Lee Rogers explores several themes with his soothing new track “Old Keys”. The track touches on the various subjects of life: purpose, loss, love, and redemption. The track has filled a variety of musical textures from the piano, synths, and dense guitar. The mellow soundscape with soothing vocals makes “Old keys” a perfect song to listen to anywhere.

“Magnificent” by Skuff Micksun

Skuff Micksun releases his punchy, melodic spoken anthem “Magnificent”. This song is about having humor when it comes to life and its many hardships.A song about taking hits and getting back up no matter what. A pure blend of spoken word and singing, the energy attracts listeners as it is bold, punchy, yet catchy. There is a huge swell within Micksun that drives the heart of the track. Hopefully, this brings some humor to your hardships!

“Peace of Mind” by Couchboy

American Indie Rock singer-songwriter Couchboy brings his own unique musicality to his latest single “Peace of Mind”. This track doesn’t have a definite genre-defining it as the artists explore different sounds and textures to create a sound that is true to them. However, “Peace of Mind” might evoke memories of 90s alt-rock tunes with its edgy musicality yet soothing soundscape. It is a really nice listen though as it is a blend of Couchboy’s unique musicality and some familiar sounds.

“P M T” by Guest Rooms

Texas-based alternative rock project Guest Rooms explores musicality sound and textures from various genres in their newest single “P M T”. The track mixes contemplative songwriting with elements of ambient noise, drone, folk, electronica, jazz, and chamber music. Listeners hear the various instrumentations that the project employs to create a rich and imaginative soundscape. There are hints of woodwinds, pianos, soothing backing vocals, and harps to create vivid textures and sounds. It is such a fantastic listen!

“Mean Ol’ Woman” by Wil Van Winkle & the Sixpins

Explores the rich sounds of bluegrass and country in Wil Van Winkle & the Sixpins’ “Mean Ol’ Woman”. The track uses fiddles, mandolins, and deep melodic guitar leads to create an upbeat track. The band employs the rich melodic lines of traditional bluegrass to create some interesting musicality in “Mean Ol’ Woman”. The instrumentation also delivers a bold sound that accompanies the lyrics’ jarring narrative of a man who is bitter after his lover left him. It is a delightful listen!

“When Stars Align” by Aquacadia

Travel back to the 80s with “When Stars Align” by Aquacadia. This track is a blend of modern alt-rock with 80s synthpop. This is a purely instrumental track, but it is really cool track with an intriguing melody featured in the synths and guitar. There are twists and turns in the instrumentation that makes add a certain depth and make this track more unique. It is the perfect track to listen to anywhere!

“bad blood” by godz

US Indietronica band godz releases their debut single “bad blood”. It’s about the hypocrisy of the world we live in and the effect/toll it takes on each of us. The track features bold lyrics that don’t hold back any emotions or feelings. The track is catchy with its slick vocal that leads the melodies with their addictive tones. The instrumentation offers a bit with its acoustic pop soundscape. Listeners should listen to the very end as there is a surprising twist that is so delightful!

“1-800-LOVELINE” by The Lovelines

Get ready to hear some soulful pop melodies in the tune “1-800-LOVELINE” by The Lovelines. This indie-pop is the perfect tune for your next romantic date as it talks about love. But it is the vocals that grab the listener’s attention with their soulful tones that feature different textures and colors. Hopefully, listeners will be dazzled by them just as much as I did!

“Money, Not Love” by J. Mann

Canadian Indie Rock artist J, Mann details a real story in his newest single “Money, Not Lov”. Imagine being caught in a heist and the captors order you pizza! “Money, Not Love” is based on a “friendly” real-life heist in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This captivating story is entwined with high-energy and jangling nature. It dives into that classic rock sound, yet is true to the artist’s own musicality with unique textures.

“City Vibe” by UnionSteve

Get ready to dance this with “City Vibe” by UnionSteve. The artist was inspired by the energy of Antwerp: ” I always love the energy and the vibe of the city and the new things that can be created there, that’s why I made a song about it”. The track features funky beats that are interlaced with soulful vocals and positive vibes. The catchy melody in the vocals will have people sing along, while the instrumentation will have people get up and dance. It is such a well-constructed tune that is filled with good vibes and addictive melodies!
