The Mid-Week Pickup for November 3, 2021

“Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?” by The Best Around

Get ready to sing along to “Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?” by American indie folk-rock band The Best Around. The song is filled with sentimental lyrics that revolve around the idea of growing older and the staying power of the singer’s relationship. There are humorous bits that are sprinkled throughout. But it is the catchy hooks that are featured in the chorus that will have listeners singing along with them. Don’t forget to listen for the instrumental break as it features a really intriguing guitar solo!

“Love Hurts” by The Underground Youth and Laura Carbone

A sentimental cover by the iconic Roy Orbison’s “Love Hurts” by The Underground Youth and Laura Carbone. The song is a reminder that for all its joys and wonders, love is never, ever a smooth ride. This cover is particularly gorgeous with Laura Carbone’s calming, melodic soprano vocals blending with The Underground Youth’s post-punk melancholy and sometimes shadowy folk-noir. These two diverse parts come together in a harmonious way that makes their version “Love Hurtd” a must listen!

“No Drama” by Ainjo

American R&B singer-songwriter Ainjohopes that listeners will feel better with their latest single “No Drama”. This tune is all about young love. It features catchy hooks in the catchy filled with addictive rhythms and melodic slopes. “No Drama” has a sort of chilled vibe to it as it has mellow instrumentation and slick vocals. Yet, there are parts of the song that listeners will bob their heads as it is addictive to listen to.

“Escape” by Olexandr Ignatov

“Escape” by Olexandr Ignatov is an instrumental whirlwind that is solely based in the 80s. The tune dives into the land of colorful synthesizers that glide through the song with a variety of tones. Don’t forget to listen to the latter half of the song as it features one of my favorite things about the song: a really radical keytar solo that soars to new synthesized heights that is so cool to listen to!

“On the other side” by The Frontier

The Frontier is back with their latest single “On the other side”, This D.C. area band (which I am from too!) is a spellbinding combo of indie pop and acoustic rock. You can hear it with “On the other side” with their feel-good hooks, mystical backing vocals, and melodies that is easy to listen to but ear-pleasing. This is the perfect song to listen to during your day as it just makes you feel good with its melodic, laid-back vibes.

“Soul Dance” by Animal Souls

Canadian rock band Animal Souls is back with another single. “Soul Dance” is all about overcoming a hurtful past and trying to move forward. It has been called a “beautiful hurt song” and once you listen to it, you will hear why. Set in a hazy, haunting presence, “Soul Dance” features bluesy rock melodies, dynamic vocals, and electrifying guitars. The bluesy instrumentation and the vocals are what drive the song with their dynamic range; starts off soft then gets louder. It is such an awesome listen!

“If You’re Lucky Your Heart Will Break” by Paul Weinfield

Paul Winfield’s newest single is all about discovering compassion for yourself in the midst of heartbreak. It is an upbeat folk-rock track that gets inspiration from the classic rock sounds of the 60s and the 70s. The atmosphere is comprised of feel-good and positive vibes with bright, uptempo instrumentation. It is a perfect song to start anyone’s day off as it will give comfort and positive vibes to anyone who listens.

“Agree to Disagree” by Devin Kennedy x Cassette Tapes

“Agree to Disagree” is the newest collaboration between American Indie Pop artists Devin Kennedy and Cassette Tapes. This tune is all about coming to terms with an impasse in a relationship. It features slick pop beats with staccato rhythms to point out the most important notes. Yet, the chorus features mellow, melodic vocals that sing candied vocal lines that are delightful to listen to. Those lines are so smooth yet addictive that listeners will want to listen to them over and over again.

“Vertigo” by Midnight Shoppers

UK alt-rock band Midnight Shoppers hopes to transport listeners to the 2000s alt-rock scene with their newest single “Vertigo”. It is a song about the fragility of our links to the past and the fear of losing those memories. “Vertigo” features an upbeat rock tempo that features addictive melodies and banging rhythms. There are brilliant hints of electronic guitars and synthesizers sprinkled throughout. Listeners will bob their heads to this tune as it is so good to listen! You have to listen to find out why it is so darn good!

“Pull Yourself Together” by Streetlight Shakers

US Power Pop/Classic Rock band Streetlight Shakers has just released their funky piano tune “Pull Yourself Together”. It features this message: “Life is short, and wallowing in self-pity and despair is a waste of our most precious commodity – time.” If you are a fan of such acts like Billy Joel, Steve Winwood, or Elton John, then Streetlight Shakers is for you! I just love the irresistible groove and catchy melody! “Pull Yourself Together” is one of my recent favorites and hope it is yours too!
