The Mid-Week Pickup for September 15, 2021

“Bloodshot” by Kisos

About the artist: Kisos comes from a family who couldn’t care less about music. While his friends jammed to all the modern hits, he was stuck in the car with 98.3 KUIC, lite rock from the 80s, 90s, & today!

Over time, the Bay Area native forged his own path. He learned flute, competed in drumline championships, and honed his voice with his university’s gospel choir. Yet through all that, he never considered music as a viable career for himself.

In 2014 that changed. Spurred on by his grandmother who asked why music wasn’t a part of his life anymore, Kisos moved to New York to pursue a dream he didn’t know he had.

He debuted his first single “Symmetry” in 2016, which Baeble Music compared to Troye Sivan and Years & Years, and followed that with a self produced EP, VOICES, in 2018.

“Young, Wild & Beautiful” by Alphanaut

Formed in 2008, the project was conceived as a musical collective with Alan coordinating the talents of a wide variety of musician friends and acquaintances to solidify his melodic ideas.

Mark has been honored to have his work licensed in feature films and television both in the US and Europe, including the song “Don’t Hide Away From the Sun” which was used during the closing credits of the film “Stag Night”.

About the artist: Starting off as a trombone player at 12 in middle school and playing until high school in the jazz band, Neon BLK transitioned to singing when entering university at 19 in 2012. He concentrated on vocal performance at Texas Southern University as a music major receiving classical training from various teachers and even entered several regional competitions placing in the finals.

The artist always has been inspired by hip hop, soca, reggae, house, jazz, and trip-hop growing up in Houston, TX.

A mix of Teena Marie and Mariah Carey vocally, DYMND, carves out her own space in music blending the sounds of her Bay Area roots with more contemporary R&B and Pop sounds.

“Striking Matches” by AYU

About the song: “”Striking Matches” is reflecting on a relationship that doesn’t feel right (anymore). It is a story about confusion and misunderstanding caused by a lack of communication. Also, it is a call to action: ‚Say what you wanna / say what you wanna say/say what you wanna do before we are drowning in flames‘. If the relationship is falling apart, in the end, is left open to interpretation.” — AYU
