Happy 1st Day of Spring! It has unofficially started today as temperatures reached 19°C/68°F here in Nagoya. There is no cherry blossoms yet as the trees near my apartment are still bare. But, the tree pollen has be abundant, which is good for my allergies.
I been nominated for three awards this month, which one of them I was nominated twice. I am going to post each award in different posts this week and next. This week, I want to focus on the Versatile Blogger Award. I got one from Arianne, the author of The College Student’s Guide to Motherhood, and one from Women With Gifts International.
I want to thank both Arianne and girls behind Women With Gifts International. for nominating me with such an award.
But, like the title said, there is a twist!
- Thank the blogger that nominated you and provide a link to their blog
- Nominate 15 other bloggers for this award
- Give 7 facts about yourself.
The 7 Facts About Me
I told you there is a twist in this post. You see, the theme of this week’s “Music Moves Me” is March’s birthdays. (I know there is a Monday in front of the title but I was busy on Monday with an emergency and I couldn’t sleep yesterday due to allergies).
I present seven facts about me that features a musician who has a birthday in March.
I am a big Miho Nakayama fan
Japanese pop singer, actress, talent, and megastar Miho Nakayama’s birthday was on March 1st. If you don’t know who is Nakayama is, let me introduce you to her a little. When Miho was in junior high school, she was scouted by a talent agent and appeared as a model in print and TV ads. Miho made her singing debut in the summer of 1985 with the single “C”. She also made her debut as an actress in the same year. She scored many hits through her hits, including the mega-hit duet with WANDS in 1992, and landed prominent roles.
One of the reasons why I love Nakayama is because she is gorgeous. She is very elegant and has great style. I also love her music, and her discography is super catchy. One of my favorite songs is “Ningyohime -mermaid-.”
I’m Hugged Sting’s Son
Lily Collins’ birthday was on Monday. Lily is the daughter of former Genesis drummer and singer Phil Collins and Jill Tavelman. Actually, Lily is only about two months older than me.
I never met Lily, but I have met another celebrity’s kid: Sting’s son.: Joe Sumner. I hugged him when I went to The Police’s reunion tour in 2007. His band, Fiction Plane, was the opening act. After they were done, they offered an autograph session for an album. I bought an album and queued in the line. When I reach Joe, my mom, who was next to me, egged me on to hug him. Joe, who was a bit embarrassed at my mom’s words, give me a light hug. I was surprised, but my mom was super happy. My mom should have hugged him instead.
My favorite movie is “Beauty and the Beast”
I have a lot of favorite movies. But, my all-time #1 movie is the 1991 version of “Beauty and the Beast. I love the fable and like to watch the different takes of the story either as a drama, musical, TV series, or movie. I love the 80s’ series Beauty and the Beast with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. I also like an Italian TV mini-series named La Bella e la Bestia that features Alessandro Preziosi and Blanca Suárez.
I really love Disney’s Beauty and Beast and will watch it once every season. I have seen a million times already, but every time I watch it, it is like watching it for the first time. I watched Beauty and Beast every day after school when I was in school. I think I drove my mom bonkers.
So, in honor of Céline Dion’s birthday on March 30, I present you with her latest song with the franchise, “How Does A Moment Last Forever.” Lots of people disapprove of the live-action update, but you can’t disapprove this beautiful song. It features profound lyrics that make you think about how do we cherish moments with loved ones.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Musicals
I am big musical fan. My favorite musicals are Beauty and the Beast, Wicked, My Fair Lady, Phantom of the Opera, Aida, and Starlight Express. But, I love to listen to many songs from other musicals too. I really want to see Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame musical that is currently in Nagoya till this summer.
This Friday is Stephen Sondheim and Stephanie Mills’ birthdays. Although I a not a big fan of Sondheim’s works — though I want to see the movie version of Into the Woods because of who appears in that– I like his works, including West Side Story.
Also, I am not familiar with musicals starring Stephanie Mills. I know she was in the Wiz, both the 70s’ movie version and even the recent TV version featured on NBC. I am more into her discography with “What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin'”.
I Also Love 80s’ Pop Culture
I am a fan of 80s’ pop culture. Whether if it fashion, movies, music, or TV shows, I am so there. I also like to watch fantasy and sci-fi movies from this decade. My favorite movies from the 80s are The Neverending Story and Labyrinth. I do have to admit that I am a fan of lesser-known shows, musicians, and filmss like the TV version of Starman.
Alan Silvestri is known to compose a lot of movie and TV scores over the past 40 years. His birthday is March 26. In honor of his birthday, I selected a piece from the 80s movie My Stepmother is an Alien that featured Kim Basinger, Alyson Hannigan, and Dan Aykroyd. Although this movie recieved negative reviews and was a box office failure, the soundtrack is a great listen and the movie is a bit dorky but enjoyable.
What is your favorite soundtrack scored by Alan Silvestri ?
My Birthday is..
May 23! I have mentioned it before.
Recently, I asked my mother why I was named Amy Elizabeth. And she responded that I was named after two of my dad’s ex-girlfriends. Ouch! I thought for the longest time that I was named after the Queen of England. But, ex-girlfriends.
Speaking of birthdays, Patty Smith Hill’s birthday is March 27. Though she is long gone, a song that she wrote is still popular. Actually, it is THE most popular song in the English language!
Do you know what it is?
(If you didn’t figure it out, it’s The Happy Birthday song.)
I Love Anime
I love anime, especially ones from the 90s. I really don’t watch a lot of the newer stuff because I don’t find them interesting (unless you have a recommendation). I don’t really pay attention anymore.
But, my favorite anime is Sailor Moon. I am a BIG Sailor Moon fan. I also a fan of magical girl shows like Cardcaptor Sakura. The main character, Sakura Kinomoto, is voiced by Sakura Tange, whose birthday is March 24. Tange has voiced many other, but she is famous for voicing Sakura Kinomoto.
“Release My Heart” isn’t a Cardcaptor Sakura song but many fans relate it to the series. It was actually featured on 2000 single Airmail.
