(Check out last’s week post: The Weekly for the Week of May 2 – May 8)

“Roman Numberals” by Dan Styslinger and the Wizards of Loneliness

“Normally when I write music, I start with a chord progression or an idea of a melody and write the lyrics to fit the progression or the melody. This was not the case for my song “Roman Numerals”. While sitting in my studio one day, a silly notion popped into my head – what if Neanderthals had pop stars? That thought was immediately followed by the obvious – well, I guess they’d be rock stars. A series of stupid dad jokes soon developed while I was simultaneously putting them to music. The product became “Roman Numerals”.” — Dan Styslinger and the Wizards of Loneliness

“Dirty” by Cowboy Destroy

From the band: Welcome to Cowboy Destroy. From Texas and living in Cali. We tell folk stories with garage grooves and lofi in-your-face growl. We call it Slop Pop. So, saddle up for powerful vocals and 90s vibes. Are you ready for jokes with a dash of darkness? Then ride shotgun on this psychedelic trip of queer empowering garage rock, specializing in songs about sex, drugs, and broken hearts. We love fuzz so much. As children we snuggled teddy bears, now we snuggle big muffs if you know what we mean.

“Seabass” by KYANOS

Brighton-based 5-piece KYANOS are back with their first single of 2022; fusing psychedelic synths with nu-jazz rhythms that hook, season, and serve an eclectic platter of nuanced, inventive sound. A reflection of post-pandemic life, “Seabass” weighs up ideas of displacement and longing, and the struggle to adapt to the fresh world left in its wake.

“Reflections” by SIGGY

“”Reflections” is a song inspired by the moment I realized that I had a problem with my addiction. It’s about a single moment when I went to the restroom during a night out and had just gotten done using and looked up into the mirror, it was the first time that I looked at myself and didn’t recognize the person looking back at me, she was not the woman who I had believed I was she was sick and colorless. I realized that I never wanted to become that woman who I saw in the mirror again and chose to become sober. ” — SIGGY
