It’s April and we have less than 60 days till the annual Eurovision contest that will happen next month. Get excited! Though the contest was canceled last year and faces strict protocols due to the current pandemic, we can still enjoy this international contest from anywhere in the world.
Each day, I will feature a song from one of the countries that is in this year’s Eurovision. Like 2019, I will make my own predictions of who will make it to the finals and maybe win the compeition. Good luck to those are competing!
Tix’s “Fallen Angel”
Tix’s “Fallen Angel” is representing Norway in this year’s Eurovision. It is the English version of his song “Ut av mørket” (Out of the dark). The song is all about the lead character’s struggle with depression, especially after facing rejection from a girl the person had feelings for. Tix uses a lot of metaphors in the lyrics to detail this battle with such metaphors as “fighting demons”, “going to Heaven”, and “being a fallen angel”.
I really love the synthpop mood of “Fallen Angel”, is relaxing and soothing. And, Tix’s bright vocals add a nice touch to the song. But, I wonder if this song is a bit generic to proceed to the finals. Just like Elena Tsagrinou‘s tune, I feel like “Fallen Angel” is something that you hear on the radio often. But, I have a feeling that Tix will take the song’s performance element to the next level during the semi-finals. And because of that, I think it will make it to the finals!
Fun Fact: Tix co-wrote “Game Time” for Flo Rida.
